INVERSION

ĐẢO NGỮ

I. KHÁI NIỆM

Cấu trúc đảo ngữ (Inversion) là trường hợp các phó từ không đứng ở vị trí bình thường của nó mà được đảo lên đứng ở đầu câu nhằm nhấn mạnh vào hành động của chủ ngữ.

CÁCH ĐẢO: Khi áp dụng cấu trúc đảo ngữ, phó từ sẽ đứng đầu câu, sau đó là trợ động từ rồi mới đến chủ ngữ và động từ chính.

- Đảo trợ động từ (do/does/did)
- Đảo động từ to be
- Đảo modal verbs

II. CÁC DẠNG ĐẢO NGỮ

1. CÁC CỤM TỪ CÓ "NO"

No + N + Auxiliary verb + S + V (inf)

(Dù bất cứ trường hợp nào cũng không)

Under/ In no circumstances

No longer

At no time did he take advantage of me.

By no means is he rude.

Under no circumstances does she hate Ross.

2. ĐẢO NGỮ VỚI "ONLY"

Only + prep (with/by) + N/V_ing + Auxiliary verb + S + V (inf)	Only with your help can we manage. Only by doing homework can I pass the exam.
(Only + từ nối + đảo ngữ) Only if + clause: chỉ khi/ nếu Only after + N/clause: chỉ sau khi Only when + clause: chỉ đến khi = Not until LƯU Ý: Khi trong câu có 2 mệnh đề (hay còn gọi là vế), ta giữ nguyên mệnh đề thứ nhất và đảo ngữ mệnh đề thứ hai. 3. TRẠNG TỪ MANG NGHĨA PHỦ ĐỊNH

(Vừa mới...thì...)

- Hardly/ barely/ rarely/ scarcely...when...
- No sooner...than...

NOTE: "Vừa mới [PAST PERFECT] thì [S.PAST]."

Barely had we arrived home when it stopped raining.

No sooner had we finished our task than the bell rang.

4. NOT UNTIL/ TILL (MÃI CHO ĐẾN KHI)

5. NEITHER/ NOR VÀ SO

6. NOT ONLY...BUT ALSO

Not only + Auxiliary verb + S + V (inf) + But + S + also + V

Not only does he cook well but he also knows how to take care of others.
Not only do they go swimming but they play badminton also/ as well.

7. SO/ SUCH... THAT

So + ADJ/ADV + Đảo ngữ + That + S + V

So pretty is she that many men chase her.

Such be N + That + S + V

N be such + That + S + V

Such is her beauty that many men chase her.

Her beauty is such that many men chase her.

8. CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN

IF 1: Should + S + V(inf), S + Will/can/may/shall + V(inf).	Should the weather be nice tomorrow, we will picnic in the park.
IF 2: Were + S + Adj/N/To_infinitive, S + Would + V(inf).	Were I you (=If I were you), I would accept his invitation. Were I to have enough money, I would buy that handbag.
IF 3: Had + S + V3/-ed, S + Would + Have + V3/-ed.	Had the car stopped suddenly, the accidents would have happened.
